What is your overall plan?

We are gathering a large team of transit riders from across Chicago and the world to create a next-generation transit app. Rather than simply telling you what bus to take, the vision for our app is to make your entire journey better and change the way people navigate our city.


How much time will I need to spend on each assignment?

How much time you spend is up to you. If you have five minutes and want to submit one observation a week, great! If you want to dive in and challenge yourself for an hour or two a week, we’ll be very excited to see everything you learn!

When should I expect to see something tangible from all this?

As a participant, you’ll start seeing results as soon as you start your first assignment. The observations, stories, and ideas you collect are tangible evidence of the research and design process, and they’ll be posted on our website for our team and the world to learn from and share.

We’ll complete the Research phase in late 2012 and the Design phase will wrap up in spring 2013. The length of the Build phase will depend on the features we all design, but we plan to have an app in testing by the end of 2013.

Where do all my contributions go?

When you submit your work for each assignment, we’ll post your images and stories to the Urban Agent section of our website. There, the rest of the team (and the world!) can see your work, post comments, and share via Facebook and Twitter. Then, at the end of both the Research phase and Design phase, we’ll prepare for the workshops by printing everyone’s contributions and hanging them all over the walls in our office. (This is a true story.)

What if I just want to stay in touch without doing any of the assignments?

That’s fine! Sign up on the home page and join the team to participate as much or as little as you’d like.
